Couples Therapy

In my work with couples, I focus on fostering clear and open communication. My goal is to encourage vulnerability and connection, creating a unique experience in our sessions that you can carry into your home. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy to help you understand each other's underlying needs and express how you wish to be loved. Every couple in my office is treated with respect and kindness. My goal is to help you understand your own emotions and behavior. Through that understanding, we can find a new way of connecting.

Finding the Spark Again

Have you found that what used to work for the two of you has lead to a life of "divide and conquer" and now there's a quiet stranger on your couch? Learning how to reconnect can be hard.  You feel like nothing's "wrong" but it sure doesn't feel right anymore.

Household Management

Does the workload of managing the cooking, cleaning, bills, childcare, parents, in-laws, cars, doctor appointments, dog grooming, and endless lists cause argument after argument? Let's talk about how you got there and how to get out of the pattern.

Ugh, your Mom!

Hey, we all have family dynamics.  Not all of them are healthy. Many couples have conflict not between them but because of pressures from family and friends. Talking about appropriate boundaries can help.

Betrayal Recovery

Taking accountability for hurting your partner is the first step. Understanding how the betrayal has changed the emotional safety they feel and committing to actually repairing their injury is the hard work. It requires vulnerability and honesty.

Parenting Challenges

If you and your partner both love your children, how is it you can approach raising them so differently? Talking about why you parent the way you do in a supportive environment can lead to negotiating and eventually being on the same page.

"Communication Problems"

You can just say you argue. That's ok. I can help the two of you figure out how to say what's in your heart and listen in a way that allows your partner to trust they can lean on you.

What can we expect?

Once you reach out, I will schedule a quick phone call to see how I might be able to help.

Our first meeting will be all together, then I schedule a one on one session with each of you. This is where I learn about who you are and where you come from. I'll ask what your perspective of your relationship is and what you'd like to get out of therapy.

Then we meet together to explore the patterns in your relationship and discuss different ways to approach the challenges of letting someone completely into your inner world.  It's a lot to pack into about 55 minutes once a week, but we give it a good try.

Most couples come weekly for a while, then when it feels safe, we space out sessions appropriately. For some couples, the change is quick. For others, it takes time. Every couple is different, and that's ok.
